Delegate Jeff Frederick, who represents Prince William County in Northern Virginia, was selected to deliver the Republican perspective on Democrat Gov. Tim Kaine’s state of the commonwealth address.
Frederick will appear with state Sen. Brandon Bell of Roanoke County tomorrow night. The fact that the House Speaker William Howell selected Frederick is a significant development for a party that has struggled to find the right message following two gubernatorial losses and legislative defeats.
Frederick, who is in his second term, is sponsoring legislation that is a key component of the GOP’s transportation and land use legislative package.
