Operatives for Duncan Hunter and Sam Brownback are buzzing about their candidates’ performance in the South Carolina straw poll. Hunter finished a close second to Rudy Giuliani. Brownback, meanwhile, finished in fourth place despite having no paid campaign staff in South Carolina.
But it was Hunter’s strong showing — losing to Giuliani by just six votes — that is the buzz at CPAC. Hunter just paid a visit to Bloggers Row to play up the results, telling the Politico’s Jonathan Martin, “Our great showing in the straw poll strongly illustrates that our message of strong national defense, enforcement at the borders and a two-way discussion on trade resonates with the votes in South Carolina.
