Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich made a surprise visit to Bloggers Row today, explaining his decision to stay out of the presidential race until this fall — if he gets in at all.

The Politico’s Jonathan Martin asked Newt directly why he’s staying out. Newt told him that he didn’t want to even talk about the race. The answer surprised me, especially since Newt is likely to perform well in the CPAC straw poll.
