[...] It’s partly for this reasoning that I decided to cast my vote for Barack Obama today. Although national polls give Obama a small advantage over John McCain in the general election, I firmly believe that McCain would handily defeat the inexperienced Obama. Secondly, I fear what the Clinton attack machine would do to McCain. Their ferocity would be worse than George W. Bush’s ugly attacks in 2000. Anyone who reads this blog regularly knows how much I dislike negative campaigns. [...]

Vonnegut asks why it's "important." I'll tell you why. Rick Klein's story is factually inaccurate. And even if the wrong number was dialed, Arcuri still expensed a phone-sex call to taxpayers.

How in the world is it "important" that the next number dialed was for a calling card? The 800-number WAS the same number as a number at the Division of Criminal Justice Services, with a 518 area code.

Clearly, what happened is that someone made a simple mistake and misdialed a state office number (thinking it was toll-free), realized the mistake, and then called the proper (non-toll-free) number using a calling card.

It's amazing to me that even after the drubbing that the Republicans rightfully took on this negative ad, you don't address the central problem with it -- IT WAS HORRIBLY FALSE.

Any reasonable inquiry would have uncovered that fact. Indeed, the very fact that it was a 1-minute, $1.25 call would make someone with any ethics pause before basing an ad on it.

But not the Republicans....
