Bipartisan Praise for C-SPAN’s New Video Policy

Liberals and conservatives are lauding C-SPAN for its new policy allowing more access to its video — a monumental victory for bloggers and the public alike. The deal, announced yesterday, means you and I are now able to post “current, future and past coverage of any official events sponsored by Congress and any federal agency” that C-SPAN has recorded.
Danny Glover of Beltway Blogroll reports that C-SPAN’s policy came under scrutiny earlier this year when House conservatives criticized Pelosi for posting C-SPAN video on her blog.
Yesterday, Pelosi was among the first to praise C-SPAN’s new policy. This morning, Rep. Jeb Hensarling — whose Republican Study Committee criticized Pelosi’s use the video — had nothing but praise. His spokesman Brad Dayspring said, “C-SPAN’s change in policy is most welcome news and a victory for all of us who wish to shine more sunlight into the halls of Congress.”
Bloggers, meanwhile, are applauding the move while also keeping a close eye on the language in license agreement. Among those offering praise: RedState, Tapscott’s Copy Desk and MyDD.
C-SPAN’s decision is also welcome news for the Open House Project, which seeks to make the House more transparent. With video as one of the primary components of the project, C-SPAN has just made our job a whole easier.
