Of all the people Mitt Romney has brought to his presidential campaign — be it Matt Rhoades, Carl Forti or Kevin Madden — the key piece of the puzzle could be Mindy Finn, who is heading to Boston to serve as Romney’s director of eStrategy.
Finn brings to the team much experience, having worked for Sen. Rick Santorum’s re-election effort, the Republican National Committee and Bush-Cheney ‘04. What do each have in common? A savvy web operation that tied together strategy, finance, communications and political components.
Why is Finn’s job so important? For starters, she brings experience to a campaign that is only scratching the surface on the web. Stephen Smith was hired to handle blog strategy and website management, but working together they can take it to the next level. (Smith, by the way, will still handle outreach to bloggers.)
UPDATE — March 9, 9:56 p.m.: Jonathan Martin at The Politico has more.
What can Romney supporters expect? Plan to see a holistic approach that includes more synergy to the campaign’s online message, money-raising and mobilization efforts. In short, if Romney’s to compete in Iowa and New Hampshire and other early primary states, he needs to build an organization of volunteers, raise lots of money and cultivate a legion of supporters in the blogosphere.
Mindy Finn gives him a person who can make that happen.
