Michael Arcuri Caves to Pressure on Iraq Supplemental

Posted by: Rob Bluey In: Capitol Hill| Foreign Affairs

Liberal bloggers who turned against Blue Dog Democrats this week scored their first victory when New York Rep. Michael Arcuri flip-flopped, promising to vote with anti-war liberals who want to micromanage the Iraq War. Several liberal blogs (here, here, here and here) lauded Arcuri’s decision to support the Democrats’ supplemental spending bill.

Arcuri represents a district that backed President Bush in 2000 and 2004, putting him in a precarious situation. Ultimately, he decided to tilt to the left on Iraq. According to this report, his office was inundated with phone calls. Liberal bloggers deserve praise if they did in fact cause Arcuri to switch his position. Unfortunately for our country, he’s come down on the side of the debate.
