Hugh Hewitt’s Book Hits New York Times Best-Seller List

Radio talk-show host and blogger Hugh Hewitt writes in the acknowledgments of his new book about Mitt Romney that his publisher “took a deep breath and okayed the project despite the publishing world’s experience that ‘horserace’ books don’t sell and the difficulty of conveying through marketing that this is not such a book.”

Ten days after “A Mormon in the White House?” launched, Hewitt’s book has overcome those hurdles. During a conference call with bloggers this afternoon, Hewitt’s publisher announced that his book will debut at No. 25 on the New York Times best-seller list on April 1.

For Hewitt and Regnery Publishing, it’s a hard-earned accomplishment. Hewitt admitted that his previous book, “Painting the Map Red,” didn’t do so well. And the book that most bloggers know him for, “Blog,” never made the New York Times list despite the widespread acclaim it received. Only his earlier work, “If It’s Not Close, They Can’t Cheat,” was a best-seller.

When I asked him why he thought the book about Romney has had early success, Hewitt said it has a lot to do with the mood of the country and excellent timing. He also said Romney makes marketing the book very easy. As people want to learn more about him, Hewitt has provided them with everything they need to know. Meanwhile, as the campaign season only gets busier, Hewitt’s book should continue to climb the charts.
