Blogging has been light the past couple days because I’m in Ithaca, N.Y., at my alma mater for our Alumni Association Board of Directors meeting. Missy and I are both on the board and we traveled here yesterday with friends Jennifer Paul and Dan Tillapaugh.
The weekend has been a mixture of both good times (dinner at President Peggy Williams’ Fountain Place home last night) and sad ones (a memorial service this morning for the late Susan DiPace). I was also able to connect with some old friends: Greg Victory, now in a career services job at Syracuse University, and Graham Stewart, our former alumni relations director who now hold a similar position at the University at Buffalo.
Today board members spent much of the day in committee meetings, including one I just left with Tom Torello, the college’s executive director of marketing communications. Torello is one of those people who “gets it” when it comes to utilizing Web 2.0 tools. The things Ithaca College is doing today — particularly with prospective students — absolutely blow away the competition. They include a new magazine called Fuse, written by current students, and myIthaca, a site that allows incoming students to connect with peers long before they arrive on campus together.
As you can see from the photo above (not taken today), Ithaca can be a beautiful place — and for March, it’s actually not too bad. Temperatures are well above freezing, but unfortunately it’s raining.
