House Majority Whip Roy Blunt (R.-Mo.) gave his son, Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt, a glowing endorsement for re-election today. The younger Blunt is in the process of deciding whether to run in 2008.
“I think he should run,” Rep. Blunt told conservative bloggers. “I think he will be re-elected.”
The elder Blunt ticked off a number of stats about his son’s tenure as governor: 80,000 new jobs, eliminating a $1 billion deficit and achieving a budget surplus. He also cited several accomplishments on issues such as tort reform, workers compensation, Medicaid, education and collective bargaining.
Matt Blunt was elected in 2004 and is currently the youngest-serving governor in America. He’s the first Missouri governor in 82 years to have a Republican legislature. Blunt is also rumored to be on Mitt Romney’s short list for vice president, should Romney secure the GOP nomination. In recent months, Blunt has moved more aggressively to court conservatives, delivering a keynote speech at David Horowitz’s Restoration Weekend last November.
