Can Giuliani Top Romney on Health Care?

It would seem to be a silly question given Mitt Romney’s success in Massachusetts. But Rep. Pete Sessions (R.-Tex.), a Rudy Giuliani fan who met with conservative bloggers today, said his man is a serious player on the issue.

Sessions said he came to support Giuliani following his father William Sessions’ long relationship with the former New York mayor. The elder Sessions was FBI director under Reagan and the first Bush. He worked closely with Giuliani, who is a former U.S. attorney.

Because Sessions was talking to us about health care, I asked how Giuliani stacks up comparison to Romney. Sessions proceeded to tell me that Giuliani would put forward a market-based health care plan that would empower consumers and allow doctors to work on behalf of patients again. Sessions said Giuliani is concerned about the quality of health care and wants to improve access to it.

While he didn’t get into anything more specific, it raised an interesting question in my mind: Can anyone compete with Mitt Romney on health care? Or will Republicans forgo talking about it entirely?
