Rep. Brian Bilbray (R.-Calif.) spent much of his time with bloggers talking about fiscal responsibility — and he should know its significance given his predecessor in Congress: former Rep. Duke Cunningham. Bilbray said he’d continue to fight for American taxpayers on issues such as the budget, but also illegal immigration.

Bilbray chastised some members of his party for supporting an amnesty plan that he said would cost taxpayers upwards of $35 billion. He said the negative fiscal impact of amnesty would do tremendous damage to the country — not to mention such a bill would reward illegal behavior.

Before heading out, RedState’s Mark I asked Bilbray about Carol Lamb, the fired U.S. attorney. Bilbray said he thought she did fabulous with Cunningham corruption case. But as Rep. Darrell Issa (R.-Calif.) has previously pointed out, Lamb gave illegal aliens a free ride on drug-smuggling charges — an issue Bilbray said has reverberated in the district.
