Conservative blogger and journalist with a passion for politics, sports and family
The most passionate member of Congress to join us today was Rep. Zach Wamp (R.-Tenn.), who covered all the talking points with great enthusiasm — and even found the energy to put in a great pitch for Fred Thompson, who hasn’t yet declared his candidacy for 2008 but is considering it.
Wamp said people look for strength and trust in presidential candidates. As far as he’s concerned, there’s no more strong, consistent conservative leader than Thompson. That’s the reason he’s gained traction so quickly, Wamp said.
“I think he will get in the race,” Wamp told me. “People are crying out for leadership.”
UPDATE — 5:32 p.m.: Apparently Wamp isn’t the only Tennessee congressman who is a huge fan of Fred Thompson. Freshman Rep. David Davis gave an enthusiastic endorsement of the former Tennessee senator. In fact, he called Thompson “Reaganesque.” Davis said he was confident Thompson would get in the race, win the primary and capture the presidency.
