Pelosi Embarrasses Herself, U.S. in Syria

The White House is absolutely giddy about today’s Washington Post editorial slamming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s “foolish shuttle diplomacy” during her high-profile trip to Syria. Meanwhile, my colleague Peter Brookes at the Heritage Foundation explains in this new video why members of Congress should leave diplomacy to the White House.

I note that Brookes didn’t bother to criticize the three GOP Congressmen (Wolf, Pitts, Aderholt) who went to Syria just a few days before Pelosi; they, too, met with Assad, held press conferences and (in today’s AP wire) have directly and publicly contradicted the President on the question of engagement with Syria.

If you want to suggest that Congressional trips of this sort are a bad idea, that’s all well and good; singling out Pelosi while conveniently ignoring identical (and, in some cases, worse) behavior from GOP Congressmen is hypocritical.
