Amnesty Bill Is Sinking Fast

Posted by: Rob Bluey In: Capitol Hill

The ink hasn’t even dried on the final draft of the Senate’s immigration bill and already about half of the country is opposed to it. The most troubling sign for Sen. Teddy Kennedy (D.-Mass.) is the resistance from Democrats, who are holding out for a bill that grants even more benefits to illegal immigrants. (Hat tip to Captain Ed.)

Conservatives, much to the chagrin of Sen. John McCain (R.-Ariz.), have been relentless in their criticism of the legislation. Beginning last Tuesday, when I first reported the details of the legislation, a coalition of right-leaning groups have come together to hammer away at the bill. Today’s Rasmussen poll reveals it has had a significant impact on public’s perception of it.

That hasn’t stopped the pro-amnesty coalition from spreading misinformation about the bill. Today, for instance, McCain sent to his supporters a press release from Sen. Lindsey Graham (R.-S.C.) about the “7 Key Myths.” It reads a lot like the White House’s “Myth/Fact” releases, which I’ve already debunked. (My post on RedState caught the attention of the White House, which posted this response.)

I kept wondering why so many people, including Republicans, were so high on this bill for so long? As ou can see from the lashing John McCain has taken on his own website’s blog…people are waking up.

Anytime Sen. Teddy Kennedy is the architect of anything, it is quite worrisome for many of us. If Sen. Kyl folds on this bill…stick a fork in it. This bill will be DONE. Good job Senators Cornyn, DeMint and of course former Senator Fred Thompson for pointing out the faults and concerns in this bill of passing yet another 1986 empty promise. The funny thing about this whole process is that most conservatives would not mind mediating a solution to provide some type of guest worker program or temp. status for undocumented workers, but the whole angst is over a desire to secure the border first. Only then can we can work on a compassionate solution. If you do not secure the border first, immigrants will make a run for the border to obtain this ZVisa status.
