Matt Lewis reports that Mitt Romney adviser Greg Mankiw signed a letter today from so-called conservatives who support amnesty. (More on the absurdity of the letter later.) The fact that Mankiw is advising Romney raises questions in my mind about the message the campaign is trying to send on immigration.

First, Romney has said that the bill is amnesty, that it is not amnesty, and that it’s a form of amnesty. Those are mixed messages. I am more concerned that this is the only Romney advisor with the intellectual and academic integrity to be consistent on this issue. But hey, the staff comes to reflect the candidate, so what would you expect? [...]
