McCain: Going, Going, Gone by September?

Posted by: Rob Bluey In: Politics

John McCain’s presidential hopes seem to be fading fast. Now there’s speculation that he could drop out of the race by September, a remarkable turn of events for the onetime front-runner.

I’m sure there are many things to blame for McCain’s plummeting poll numbers, but nothing has done more damage than his support for the Senate amnesty bill. McCain’s alignment with President Bush and Sen. Teddy Kennedy (D.-Mass.) on immigration is a non-starter with conservatives. It appears to be also having a significant role in his second-quarter fundraising struggles (we’ll know more in about a week).

To make matters worse, conservatives in his home state of Arizona have taken up a petition calling on him to withdraw from the presidential race. Ouch!

But this will be when the problems really begin, I’m afraid. Who’s going to deal w/McCain when he starts to cause trouble in the Senate (doesn’t he have about 4+ years left?) after the ‘08 election? Which of the candidates is best equiped to deal with him? Because he’ll be on the “rejection rampage”. Full of bitterness and up to no good. He’ll be the “Payback Express”. Someone will need to “slap him down” good and proper. Problem is he always pulls out his “Vietnam Experience” and uses this as a weapon. There’s only one other candidate that I know of, who if elected President, would be immune to that. And thats the other Vietnam combat vet, Duncan Hunter. Ought to be interestin’. Darvin Dowdy

Darvin,

The people of Arizona are sentenced to three and a half more years of McCain, not four plus years as you suggested.

We are eagerly awaiting the end of the sentence. Please don’t torture us by suggesting it is even longer!
