Help Jeff Emanuel Report From Iraq

My fellow RedState blogger Jeff Emanuel told me today that he’s headed back to Iraq as an embedded reporter/blogger in August and September. You may recall that Jeff traveled to Iraq earlier this year with Victoria Coates, where they told some amazing stories about what is happening on the frontline of the War on Terror.

Jeff’s upcoming trip comes at a time when American politicians are losing patience with the war. The next two weeks in Congress will be a trying time for the Bush administration, as it faces criticism not just from Democrats but Republicans as well.

The political fight here at home is one reason Jeff wants to return. (In addition to his trip in April, he spent time in Iraq about four years ago while serving in the Air Force.) In his e-mail to me today, Jeff wrote:

Given the need for some accurate, on-the-ground reporting from the front to provide information to the American people amidst the ongoing testimony and debate concerning the Iraq war this fall, I’ve committed to making a return trip to the battlefront in in that country.

I’ve always admired Jeff and others like him for their bravery. They provide a much-needed alternative view of what’s taking place in Iraq. But in order to do so, they rely on donations to pay for gear, insurance and other necessities. Please consider making a donation.

UPDATE — 11:34 p.m. The New York Times carries a story in tomorrow’s paper about the negative implications of withdrawing from Iraq.

UPDATE — 11:51 p.m.: Before I call it a night, Amanda Carpenter at Townhall reminds us why we need people like Jeff reporting from Iraq. Liberals like Harry Reid have made it their top priority to preach a defeatist attitude about Iraq.
