Hillary’s Savvy Pitch to Home Owners

Posted by: Rob Bluey In: Politics

If there’s one storyline that could have a dramatic impact on the 2008 presidential election, it just might be the high rate of foreclosures across America. No one has better coverage on the political impact than Soren Dayton.

Today the issue took center stage when Sen. Hillary Clinton (D.-N.Y.) unveiled a plan to “protect the American dream of home ownership.” While there’s little in the plan for a conservative to support — it is based almost entirely on more regulation and government intervention — I do commend Hillary for making it a campaign issue.

Hillary clearly gets it and is smart to talk about it now, long before anyone casts a vote. As the new RealtyTrac stats reveal, several key states have significant foreclosure numbers. Hillary’s populist plan might just be what these home owners want to hear.

It’s about time someone made this a campaign issue. Most of us can’t control what goes on in Iraq or even in Washington DC, but we sure need to get on with the business at home, not the least of which is promoting home ownership. Very few countries in the world even have that opportunity, so we have to protect that right.
