Conservative blogger and journalist with a passion for politics, sports and family
Rep. Tim Walberg (R.-Mich.), my favorite freshman in the 110th Congress, is now blogging. It went live on Tuesday with this introductory note: “In today‚Äôs modern media age, it is important for members of Congress to take advantage of every available opportunity and medium to stay in touch with the people they represent.”
I first came to know of Walberg prior to his beating incumbent Rep. Joe Schwarz in the GOP primary last year. Since coming to Washington, I’ve talked to him on a few occasions when he visited the Heritage Foundation, attended the House Conservative Members Retreat in Baltimore, and spoke at a House Republican Conference event for bloggers.
He’s a sharp guy and solid conservative. He’s also savvy enough to realize the importance of communicating with bloggers. I hope he follows a model laid out by David All when he was Rep. Jack Kingston’s (R.-Ga.) spokesblogger. Giving staffers have leeway to write produces both good content and more traffic. Just ask the House Republican Study Committee or Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.), whose blog is called The Gavel. It’s worked for them. It could work for any House member.
