It was a good night to play softball for the Heritage Foundation. The Capitalist Tools beat the Department of Commerce, 10-7, to claim the Greenbacks division title. And the Supply Sliders silenced the Center for American Progress, 11-5. Tonight’s games marked the end of the regular season.
My team, the Tools, closed out the season with a 12-2 record. Our game tonight was a little close for comfort, but a win is a win. I went 3-for-4 with a two runs scored. But the real highlight came in the bottom of the third. I was playing third base when a close play and collision left me with a pair of broken glasses. I made a quick repair during the game, but it took a visit to Lens Crafters afterward to straighten them out.
Our victory put us in the playoffs for the Think Tank Softball championship. So far we know the Leadership Institute has qualified by winning the Bull Moose division. Our division rivals, the National Democratic Institute, have the inside track for the wildcard berth. That would leave the final spot up for grabs between the State Department’s Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs and the New America Foundation, who have identical records in the Whigs division.
Meanwhile, the Supply Sliders’ victory tonight gives them second place in their division with a 10-4 record. Although they narrowly missed the playoffs, they can take pride in beating the liberal CAP to close out the year.
As the season comes to a close, I’m thrilled to have been part of the Tools team. After playing on two losing teams with Eagle Publishing the past couple seasons, it was nice to finally be on a winner. (No offense to my friends on the Axis of Eagle, who got me hooked on softball in the first place.) Credit goes to Heritage’s two managers, Brian Darling of the Tools and Adam Salmon of the Supply Sliders. They made the games fun, but also instilled a sense of competitiveness that motivated us to win.
