History was made in Louisiana last night. Rep. Bobby Jindal was elected to be the first non-white governor since Reconstruction, taking over a state that was ravaged by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and seems destined to chart a new path away from the Democratic machine that has ruled for far too long.

My friends at RedState have some excellent coverage, including a full recap of events last night, personal reflections on the race, and the implications of Jindal’s victory. Patrick Ruffini wrote about the race yesterday on Townhall, calling it a “Miracle on the Bayou.”

Personally, it’s nice to see someone as qualified as Jindal make a comeback. I first wrote about him when I was working at Cybercast News Service in 2003 during his losing bid for governor. His story was motivational back then and even more inspiring today.
