U.S. Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez spoke at Heritage yesterday about the U.S.-Colombia trade pact. During the question-and-answer period that followed, Gutierrez was asked about the attacks on free trade from Democrat presidential candidates. He gave a solid defense of trade in the context of U.S. economic growth and also quashed protectionist views.
This was the first of what I hope is a new approach to covering Heritage speakers. Instead of just dumping the whole speech online — which is still available, by the way — we decided to isolate some of the highlights.
