My Money’s on Saul

Chris Cillizza writes on his Washington Post blog about the jockeying among three men to become the next chairman of the Republican National Committee. Although not all will admit it, Cillizza leaves little doubt that Katon Dawson of South Carolina, Jim Greer of Florida and Saul Anuzis of Michigan will be contenders for the post in January 2009.

I’ve never met Dawson or Greer, but I know Anuzis dating back to my days at Human Events. He’s one of the savviest players in politics today, revolutionizing the state GOP with his embrace of technology. (Anuzis was the first state chairman to blog and continues to do it daily; he even posts on RedState.) But more importantly, he’s a principled conservative who understands the importance of the coalition that Ronald Reagan brought together.

Although Anuzis tells Cillizza he’s not a candidate for the RNC post, I can’t think of a better person to transform the party at the national level. I certainly hope he runs. There’s no question in my mind that he’d win.
