Decision Day for Terrelle Pryor [Update: Not Today]
America’s best high school football player, Terrelle Pryor of Jeannette, Pa., has narrowed his choices to Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State. We’ll find out at noon today where he’s headed next year. My money is on Michigan.
Pryor is a remarkable multi-sport talent. He broke all sorts of records playing for the state-championship Jayhawks last football season. In recent days, he’s flashed his athleticism on the basketball court.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette put together an incredible photo slideshow of Pryor’s high school career. Sports writer Mike White also wrote a great piece about Pryor’s life as a sought-after recruit. In recent days, head coaches Joe Paterno (Penn State), Rich Rodriguez (Michigan) and Jim Tressel (Ohio State) have all visited Jeannette to see Pryor.
I’m putting my money on Michigan. First-year head coach Rodriguez is staking his entire existence on landing Pryor, and before he departed West Virginia, the Mountaineers were arguably Pryor’s top choice.
No matter where he goes, Pryor will instantly become a college football sensation. Keep an eye on this kid.
UPDATE — 11:58 a.m.: Terrelle Pryor has delayed his decision. With Penn State apparently coming on strong, the Jeannette star told Rivals.com that he’ll put off making a decision today. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Pryor’s father encouraged him to make a trip to State College, Pa. This is encouraging news for Joe Pa and the legions of fans who want Pryor to play football in Pennsylvania.
UPDATE — 12:13 p.m.: Pryor was just interviewed on ESPNU along with Jeannette coach Ray Reitz and Steelers backup QB Charlie Batch. He put Oregon back in the mix of schools he’s considering, and plans to make a trip to the West Coast. The commentators on the station think that could seal the deal for the Ducks.
UPDATE — 10:04 p.m.: I think I’m going to give up writing about politics and focus exclusively on sports. Yesterday in the Express newspaper, my blog post about the Super Bowl made the blog log section. Then today, after this post went live, I heard from several people about Pryor. One of them asked me to link to TAKKLE’s analysis of Pryor, where he’s ranked No. 16. In addition, TAKKLE blogger Brandon Lilly had some harsh words for the youngster.

Let’s get real. This kid cannot make a bad decision here. He might make some bad decisions in the future, which would negate the good decision he has to make in his choice of colleges. But that’s up to him. Personally, as a Michigan man, I hope he comes to Ann Arbor. But the best advice he can get is, “relax, and make the best of the great choices you have in front of you.”
