Romney Drops Out Right Before My Eyes

Mitt Romney at CPAC, originally uploaded by Rob Bluey.
Justin Hart of My Man Mitt and I got a birds-eye view of Mitt Romney’s historic speech at CPAC. We decided to use our press credentials to their fullest advantage — sitting in front of the stage with the other national photographers.
I had no idea Romney was going to drop out of the race when the speech began. It was amazing to be in the room to watch the crowd’s reaction. Romney was cheered wildly throughout much the speech; when he signaled he would quit, the crowd reacted with disbelief.
Given the chaos of bloggers’ corner at the moment, I was able to post only a few of the pictures. Check back later to see more. And for more coverage, make sure you check out the Kithbridge feed on CPAC.
UPDATE — 4:27 p.m.: I posted video of Romney’s announcement on YouTube.

CNN’s Political Ticker has the details: Roughly one-quarter of the votes in the three-day CPAC 2008 straw poll were cast before Mitt Romney dropped out of the presidential race, and three-quarters after his withdrawal.
