Put the Rumors to Rest: Reynolds Is Running

Rep. Tom Reynolds, originally uploaded by Rob Bluey.
Last week on my blog I speculated that Rep. Tom Reynolds, one of the few Republican congressmen left in New York, would retire from Congress. I based my prognosis on the financial scandal at the National Republican Congressional Committee, and a tip offered to me by a conservative journalist who shall remain nameless.
It’s always dangerous to repeat a rumor, and that’s just what I did. But after talking to Reynolds’ deputy chief of staff, I owe the congressman an apology for rushing to judgment.
L.D. Platt, who has twice arranged for the congressman to visit Heritage to chat with bloggers, told me my speculation couldn’t be further from the truth: “I can put to rest any speculation about Tom not running. He is running. And I would point out he has not been accused of any wrongdoing.”
The news that Reynolds is running certainly improves the odds of Republicans in New York, even though the situation still looks glim, especially if Hillary is on the ballot in November to pull votes away from the GOP in Upstate.
