I was left feeling very unsatisfied with last night’s debate between John McCain and Barack Obama. My tweets probably reflect that as well, but it wasn’t until the debate was over and I digested everything that I became frustrated with both candidates and the stale solutions they offered.
For those of you who didn’t follow my commentary on Twitter, here’s the full transcript.
- I’m disgusted with both candidates. Same old answers, same old rhetoric. How sad for our great country. – 11:05 p.m.
- Matthew Dowd’s sports analogy: Obama didn’t fumble. As a result, McCain failed to score a touchdown. – 10:46 p.m.
- ABC analysts declare town hall format a failure. “The town was taken over by the mayor.” Nice job, Brokaw. – 10:40 p.m.
- Retweeting @Rasiej Only 4 Internet questions. Same old old media debate = same old results: zero -10:32 p.m.
- There he goes again talking about the League of Democracies. Didn’t we learn our lesson with the U.N.? – 10:27 p.m.
- Two of my @Heritage colleagues are in Tbilisi for European Resource Bank this week. http://www.rbeurope.org/ – 10:23 p.m.
- Looks like at least two people, maybe more, are sleeping in the audience. Is it really that boring? -10:16 p.m.
- Watching two live blogs tonight. Richmond’s NBC12 with @ryanobles: http://is.gd/3GOM. And @RedState: http://is.gd/3GOP. – 10:13 p.m.
- Obama looks pensive sitting there as McCain talks. – 10:08 p.m.
- SCHIP vote was a backdoor approach to expanding Medicaid to the middle class. http://is.gd/3GN4 -10:00 p.m.
- Don’t go there, Obama. Conservatives opposed SCHIP because liberals tried to use it to socialize health care. – 9:58 p.m.
- McCain’s health care plan offers more choice. Obama’s offers less. That’s the simple explanation. -9:55 p.m.
- Obama: Why don’t you also tell us about your government agency that’s going to tell me where I have to go to the doctor? – 9:52 p.m.
- McCain can talk about #pork all night, but it’s not effective unless he starts giving examples. – 9:49 p.m.
- Glad to hear Obama is such a strong supporter of nuclear power. We’ll make sure you stand by your words, Senator. – 9:48 p.m.
- Think the economy is bad now? Cap and trade would be devastating. http://is.gd/3GLg -9:46 p.m.
- Did you know entitlement programs are 60 times larger than the $700 billion bailout? See this chart: http://is.gd/3GKW – 9:42 p.m.
- Obama acknowledges that he would tackle entitlement programs. That will get Paul Krugman enraged. http://is.gd/3GKU #current – 9:40 p.m.
- Ballston Spa! I was just there in August on my way to Saratoga Springs. Good question, too. Must be a conservative. – 9:38 p.m.
- Obama’s plan would raise taxes to European levels.http://is.gd/3GKr – 9:37 p.m.
- I’m glad Obama criticized Bush on that point about post-9/11 shopping. That was a bone-headed moment for Bush. – 9:32 p.m.
- McCain does his best when talking about #pork, but he needs to offer more outrageous examples of earmarks. – 9:30 p.m.
- Obama again endorsed the line-item veto. He did that in the last debate as well. Is this really his policy position? – 9:28 p.m.
- Glad to hear McCain talk about entitlements. Check out the Fiscal Wake-Up Tour to get the facts. http://is.gd/3GIW – 9:25 p.m.
- McCain gives another plug to Citizens Against Government Waste and National Taxpayers Union, too. Sweet! – 9:23 p.m.
- No, Barack, the American people are just as responsible for our fiscal problems as Washington. -9:20 p.m.
- We don’t need more regulation, you fool. 59% of Americans agree that government is the problem. http://is.gd/3GI7 – 9:18 p.m.
- Obama did a better job explaining the bailout. Too bad he’s repeating bad info about deregulation. -9:15 p.m.
- McCain wasting little time connecting Obama to his crony friends at Fannie and Freddie. Good for him. -9:13 p.m.
- If Brokaw doesn’t think McCain and Obama are abiding by the rules, why doesn’t he open his mouth and cut them off? – 9:12 p.m.
- Mitt Romney would make a better Treasury secretary than Meg Whitman. – 9:08 p.m.
- Obama is lying again. Regulation has increased under President Bush. Get your facts straight, Senator. http://is.gd/3GGc – 9:07 p.m.
- Who dressed McCain? That is one ugly tie. – 9:03 p.m.
