"And while I certainly hope Obama’s call for unity is sincere, I also recognize the frustration and anger that so many liberals in Washington embody. After eight years out of power, the left will undoubtedly want to exact revenge and move our country in a direction where government trumps freedom."

I too worry about "Democrat revenge." As a democrat myself, I have spent quite a bit of the last decade feeling like Washington voted the exact opposite of my interests any time they had a chance, and it was not a fun place to be, and quite disenfranchising. Revenge would just be carrying on the same crap that Democrats have reviled for the last 8 years.

I do not wish that fate on anyone, and I definitely hope the other 46% of the nation that voted for McCain will find consolation instead of animosity at the hands of the new administration and increased majority in the Senate.

To be quite honest, I am extremely glad we didn't pick up a filibuster-proof Senate. The temptation to "undo" the last 8 years just for the sake of revenge would be strong, and I have very little faith that anybody would be able to control their impulse to walk through that door.

Isn't a personal blog by its very nature self-promoting? But that's beside the point. It took liberals like Glenn Middleton less than 24 hours to abandon Obama's mantra of hope for pettiness.

This is a very good post. Since the election, I've seen so many Republicans acting like childish sore losers that it's made me ashamed (again) to be affiliated with them. I appreciate the optimism in your blog post.

If you want a definition of pettiness, read back on these blogs. Self promoting, petty, welcome to the buzz words of consevatism.
