The deficit dropped to its lowest level in five years last week, but you didn’t read about it the New York Times, Washington Post or Los Angeles Times. Today in my Townhall column, I question why the mainstream media always harp on bad economic news and never report the good news.

Today on Townhall I examine the debate over SCHIP in Congress. With Democrats refusing to negotiate and Republicans acting stubborn, it seems clear that most lawmakers want to play political games rather than help poor children. There’s one exception, however. His name is Sen. Mel Martinez.

There’s a great article in the current edition of National Journal by Bara Vaida about the growing importance of blogging on public policy. I’m quoted in it along with Erick Erickson of RedState, David All of TechRepublican, Henry Copeland of Blogads, Matt Stoller of Open Left, Glenn Reynolds of Instapundit and John Aravosis of AMERICAblog.

Andrea Hopkins of Reuters quoted me in a story about the recent attacks by liberals against conservative talk-show hosts Rush Limbaugh and Bill O’Reilly. I told her that improved coordination on the left, combined with the growth of liberal blogs, has helped fuel the criticism. But even that has stopped conservatives from dominating the airwaves.

I almost forgot to link to Jose Antonio Vargas’ Washington Post article today on techPresident. I’m quoted in it, praising techPresident for its ingenuity. Anyone looking for a perspective on the impact of technology on the 2008 race must read this site.

I’m somewhat embarrassed to admit this, but my quip about Fred Thompson’s Mackinac Island speech resembling “Bob Dole — without the Viagra” has really generated quite a buzz. Howard Kurtz quoted me in the Washington Post yesterday in a story about Thompson. And last week Conn Carroll at The Blogometer found it important enough to [...]

The Heritage Foundation has a new show on XM Radio’s POTUS ‘08 channel. (Click here to listen.) I’m fortunate to contribute a short segment each week at the end of the broadcast about how candidates are using the Internet. I hope you’ll tune in to listen to the hour-long show each Tuesday at 1 p.m. [...]

Newt Gingrich at Solutions Day, originally uploaded by Rob Bluey.
I had the opportunity to spend Thursday in Atlanta with Newt Gingrich for Solutions Day. By the time I left, as fellow blogger Ed Morrissey will [...]

This week on Townhall I write about the showdown between President Bush and congressional Democrats over taxes and spending. Mitt Romney promised at the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference that he would make sure there was fresh ink in the veto pen if elected president. Fiscal conservatives hope Bush adopts the same attitude.

I’ll be making my debut on XM Radio’s POTUS ‘08 channel today at 1:30 p.m., although I’m not sure you’ll be able to listen because it will be broadcast live on only a few satellites. Next week when the station officially launches it’ll hit more markets. I’m on opposite Ari Melber, who blogs at Huffington [...]
